- The name Saskatchewan comes from the Plains Indian word "kisiskaciwan" which means "swift flowing water" and refers to the South Saskatchewan River

Landscape and Climate
- Saskatchewan is known as the Land of Living Skies due to its breathtaking sunsets and the beautiful Northern Lights
- Saskatchewan has no mountains, but it does have the Cypress Hills which, at 1,468 metres above sea level, are the same height as Banff, Alberta in the Rocky Mountains
- The Saskatchewan climate can be highly variable but is generally characterized by warm, dry summers and cold, dry winters; annual precipitation ranges from 320 to 450 mm
- Saskatchewan is the sunniest province in Canada averaging up to 2,500 hours of sunshine a year
Agriculture in Saskatchewan
- Cropping
- Grains and oilseed farms are the most common types of farms in Saskatchewan accounting for 43.5% of all farms in the province
- Crops can include wheat, barley, canola, rye, oats, flaxseed, peas and lentils
- Saskatchewan produces 28% of Canada's grain
- Saskatchewan grows over 54% of Canada's wheat crop
- Livestock
- Livestock farms in Saskatchewan are mainly devoted to cattle, although pigs and sheep are also raised in significant numbers
- Cattle farms account for 24.3% of all farms, raising some 3 million animals
- In an attempt to weather the ups and downs of prices, an increasing number of farms are mixing both crop and livestock production
- Other farms are producing specialized products such as exotic animals, vegetables, fruits and berries
- In 2001, the average farm size in Saskatchewan was 1283 acres
